The JPackage Project has two primary goals:
We focus on free and open source software whenever possible. For convenience, we also provide non-free packages without the restricted source code.
Our RPMs are generic in that they should work on any RPM based Linux distribution (Mandriva, Red Hat, SuSE, others). Other packaging format suggestions are welcome too.
The JPackage.org 5.0 release (JPP5) is out! Please update your jpackage-release so that you also get the 5.0-updates repository enabled. That is where any bug fixes will be released for JPP5 (only done if absolutely necessary).
We are now working on the JPackage.org 6.0 release, all compiled with OpenJDK. Volunteers?
A clarification: the JBossAS 4.2.3.GA we have for Fedora-9 also installs and runs on Fedora-10 and 11. A JBossAS 5.1.0.GA is on the works for Fedora-12 and a JBossAS 5.2.0.GA is planned for Fedora-13.
We are in the final stages of preparing to release JPP5 and are also starting work on the next version of jpackage, JPP6
To all those interested in JBossAS 4.2.3.GA on Fedora 9: I have set up a public yum repository through JPackage. The instructions for enabling it are pretty simple.
Just grab the jpackage-release RPM from any JPackage mirror site, e.g., dotsrc.org and install it. Then, you should be able to execute 'yum install jbossas'. Once the installation completes, you can start the jbossas service with '/sbin/service jbossas start'.
NB: In my testing, I found that if you do not have /etc/hosts set up properly that jbossas may fail to start. Also, you should not be running Fedora tomcat on the same port.
We are working on a new release, which will have JBoss AS 4.2.3 and many new goodies. Stay tuned!
